I grew up along the Mississippi River and still enjoy exploring its banks. One such site is Burlington, Iowa. The downtown area features sharp elevation changes from the low-lying riverfront to nearby bluffs. The most notable climb (or drop) is at Snake Alley in the Heritage Hills neighborhood. Snake Alley was once considered the world’s most-crooked street and is still open to traffic, weather permitting. You may see a few tourists, though on most days, you’ll have it all to yourself. We enjoyed a drive down Snake Alley, followed by walks up and down.
Things to do nearby: Eat pizza at Napoli’s (short drive or extended walk from Snake Alley), Italian dinner at La Tavola (walking distance from Snake Alley)
Toured: Summer 2016
Welcome! I will be sharing tips on past travels and possibly some ideas for future trips.
